About the Client

The client is a D2C perfume brand operating in India’s growing fragrance category. The brand focuses on affordable niche perfumes, discovery sets, gifting options, daily wear fragrances, and long-lasting scents suitable for Indian weather.

In this category, purchase decisions are highly community-led. Buyers often check Reddit, Quora, Google reviews, peer recommendations, and fragrance communities before choosing a perfume.

The brand needed to build trust where users were already asking questions.

The Challenge

Perfume buyers do not only search for product pages. They search for real opinions.

They want to know:

  • Which perfume lasts long in Indian weather?
  • Which perfume is good for gifting?
  • Are discovery sets worth buying?
  • Which scent works for office or daily wear?
  • Which perfume gives niche quality at an affordable price?
  • Is the brand trustworthy enough to try?

The client needed stronger visibility across both Reddit and Quora, while also improving Google page-1 visibility through community-led content.

Key Challenges We Identified

1 Limited community visibility

The brand needed stronger presence across fragrance communities where users actively discuss perfume recommendations, longevity, pricing, gifting, and discovery sets.

2 Need for trust-led recommendations

In fragrance, overly promotional content does not work. The brand needed authentic, helpful participation that felt natural and community-first.

3 Opportunity to rank on Google through Reddit and Quora

Google was already surfacing community discussions for branded and purchase-intent fragrance queries. The goal was to capture these results with strong Reddit and Quora assets.

4 Product recall needed to be strengthened

The campaign needed to repeatedly position key products as recognizable recommendations across relevant conversations.

5 Dual-platform visibility gap

Reddit was needed for community trust, while Quora was needed for informational search visibility and long-tail discovery.

The Opositive Approach

Opositive built a dual-platform community authority strategy across Reddit and Quora.

Opositive built a dual-platform community authority strategy across Reddit and Quora.

1 Build authentic community visibility across fragrance-led discussions.
2 Improve positive sentiment through helpful, product-relevant answers.
3 Capture Google SERP visibility for branded and purchase-intent searches.

The campaign combined new thread creation, answers on existing conversations, Quora question creation, and strategic answer placement across relevant communities.

What We Did

1 Created New Reddit Threads Around Buyer Intent

Opositive created Reddit threads around high-intent perfume topics such as:

  • Discovery sets
  • Perfume gifting
  • Pricing fairness
  • Long-lasting perfumes
  • Daily wear scents
  • Affordable niche perfume options
  • Perfumes under ₹2,000–₹5,000

These topics helped the brand appear where fragrance buyers were actively evaluating options.

2 Engaged Existing Reddit Discussions

Along with new Reddit threads, Opositive also answered existing high-intent discussions.

This helped the brand tap into active conversations around:

  • Affordable perfumes
  • Long-lasting scents
  • Indian fragrance preferences
  • Office wear perfumes
  • Gifting options
  • Discovery sets vs full bottles

The Reddit campaign achieved a strong 93% live rate, with 49 out of 53 Reddit contributions staying live.

3 Built Quora Visibility for Informational Search Queries

Opositive created and answered Quora questions around topics like:

  • Perfume longevity
  • Gifting recommendations
  • Discovery sets
  • Affordable perfumes
  • Daily wear fragrance options
  • Office perfumes

Quora helped the brand capture informational and long-tail search intent, especially from users comparing products before purchase.

4 Targeted Relevant Fragrance Communities

The campaign focused on high-intent Reddit communities including:

  • r/Colognes
  • r/ScentHeads
  • r/Perfumehouse
  • Other fragrance communities

The strategy balanced Indian price-sensitive fragrance audiences with broader perfume communities focused on designer alternatives, niche scents, and professional use.

5 Strengthened Product Recall

The campaign repeatedly positioned key products inside relevant conversations.

The strongest product recall came from:

  • Musk Have: 12 recommendations
  • Discovery Sets: 22 mentions
  • Late Checkout: 8 mentions

This helped turn selected products into recognizable community recommendations.

6 Improved Google SERP Visibility

Reddit and Quora content started appearing on Google Page 1 for multiple branded and purchase-intent keywords.

This helped the brand build search authority beyond its own website.

The strongest SERP wins included:

  • Community discussions appearing below the official brand website
  • Reddit threads ranking for discovery set searches
  • Quora answers supporting informational discovery
  • AI Overview pulling discovery set-related content for review intent

The Results

The campaign helped the brand grow community visibility, live contribution volume, sentiment, product recall, and search authority across Reddit, Quora, and Google SERP.

Our Learning

For D2C perfume brands, community-led visibility can directly influence trust and discovery.

Reddit helps build peer-led credibility. Quora captures informational search intent. Together, they create a powerful trust layer that supports Google SERP visibility and product recall.

This case proves that fragrance brands can use community platforms not just for engagement, but for search authority, sentiment building, and buyer validation.
